Goguma: My Story

After a false start and a long hiatus, my newsletter is back under new management as Goguma: My Story!

Instead of a slice-of-life peak behind the curtain into myself, I want to share more about my story of taking my startup, Goguma, from slip to spud. But before talking about this exciting new shift, let me fill you in on what's been happening with my business:

Since launching on March 1st, Goguma is thriving. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Goguma has revenue! We are incredibly grateful for our early customers; with them we had our first cash flow positive month in June.
  • The Goguma potato patch has grown from a single spud (me) to a potato patch of four!:
    • Haftan Eckholdt (CxO)
    • Matt Sarrel (Head of Sales)
    • David Cannan (Software Engineer)
  • Not only are we in talks with enterprise brands, but we have also started conversations with VCs about how Goguma and its technology can transform marketing for all brands!

As all of this happened, I kept thinking back to my forgotten newsletter. Since I had initially intended it to be a way to express myself, I immediately deprioritized my newsletter after Goguma’s launch. I thought, “How can I spend time talking about any number of odd topics when my sole focus should be on my business?” What I should have been thinking, however, is, "How can I continue to build my brand in service of my business?"

After much cajoling from my partner, I started to reimagine using my newsletter to tell my story about Goguma. Through it all, I’ve learned more about myself than at any other point of my career. I’ve woken up ecstatic only to go to bed feeling defeated more times than I can count. And the flip side of that has been even more common! Weathering the ups and downs of being a startup founder isn’t something you can prepare for, and I want to share my experiences for others to look towards and use.

Expect new content at least every two weeks that focuses on weaving lessons from my past with experiences from my Goguma present. (And yes, I do mean content broadly so stay tuned!)

Thanks for hanging on through the radio silence — better times are ahead!

Warmly,

Drew
